Birds of a feather flock together
We often hear this sentence in everyday conversation. When we look a little closer, maybe that’s true. Mostly, we choose people who have habits, interests and music taste similar to ours. We hang out with people of similar temperaments, easily communicate with them and rarely enter into conflicts.
We have a feeling that we are at the same wavelength. The good news are that we can choose the people with whom we want to spend our free time. However, as a coach, you will not always be able to assess the person who first time comes to the session.
The fundamental for each quality coaching session is established complete rapport with the client.
What happens when a client is completely different from you?
The PCM methodology recognizes six types of personality, that differ from each other according to their dominant characteristics of personality, internal needs, motivators and reasons from which they enter the state of stress. The challenge of each coach is to get to know first of its characteristic combination of six types of personality, the so-called personality building, and then accept a client who has a completely different personality building from him.
How? Recognizing the psychological needs of different types of personality.
Thinker – recognition of work and time structure
A thinker is outstanding in organizing activities and detailed planning.
He is happy about taking responsibility, so he is very welcome in personal and professional relationships. When you have the opportunity to do your ideas by supporting all aspects of rabies and logical structuring. A structured approach to work and recognition of his expertise is what is most important to him.
Persister – recognition of work and respect of beliefs and attitudes
Persister is a person who observes and evaluates the world through his attitudes, opinions, and values. It is characterized by strong moral and ethical standards. He is an extremely discerning person. In communication with others, Persister is very interested in expressing his opinion and hearing others. Also, he is extremely committed to his personal and professional development.
Harmoniser – respect for personality and sensory needs
Harmonizer is a pleasant, compassionate person who looks around the world through emotions. The Harmoniser greatly appreciates and respects people who also realize the importance of his feelings. In relationships, he brings empathy and harmony. His need is to feel comfortable, accepted as a person, and to know that people care about him.
Rebel – a need for fun interaction
A Rebel is a creative person who finds a solution where others do not.
He is spontaneous, playful and capable of bringing entertainment even in boring tasks. Also, it is characterized by spontaneity and reaction based principle:”I like it / I do not like it”. Other people see it as a great source of positive energy and fun, therefore, he is pleased to be invited to numerous of gatherings.
Promoter – a need for dynamics
At the first contact, the Promoter gives the impression of a charming, affectionate person. It is extremely resourceful and can be said to find a way out in any situation. Everything that works for him is necessary dynamics and it is extremely important for him to feel alive all the time. A Promoter is a person who communicates directly and in a conversation likes to switch to the point immediately.
Imaginer a need for solitude
Imaginer is an introspective and imaginative person. He often thinks about himself, his life and all possible scenarios and variants of various events. Because of this, he often needs to stay alone. When talking to people, he does not give many facts, but rather often analyzes his numerous hypotheses and options before concluding.
In addition to its use in everyday communication, the PCM methodology has a very wide application. Some of the areas applied are conflict management, stress management, leadership, team building and employee motivation, sales, and complaint handling.
